Summer Jazz Academy Groznjan 2015


Get ready for another magical summer of jazz in Groznjan from the 14-28th July.

This course is part of Jeunesses Musicales International’s JM Jazz World program. The JM Jazz program caters for the promotion of international summer jazz camps, international projects, jazz ensembles tours and international exchanges of jazz musicians between the JMI countries. Its main objective is to provide young jazz musicians with the possibility to gain experience working to high professional standards in major concert halls, theatres and festivals, and with outstanding jazz musicians, sharing musical ideas in the field of jazz music. This JM Jazz World project is organized and coordi­nated by Jeunesses Musicales Croatia.

Summer Jazz Academy is held together with the international jazz festival ‘JAZZ IS BACK BP’, which received the Best European Small Festival Award in 2008 (European Jazz Award Committee). All the participants will have opportunity to hear their professional colleges and also have the opportunity to perform (individually and in group) in the festival program at the final concert on 27th July.

Our team of mentors is from all over the world. They will work every day from 9.30am till noon, and from 4pm - 7pm. One day off is reserved for leisure time spent on the beaches of beautiful Croatian coast of Istria.

Who can apply?

All of you singers, trumpeters, saxophonists, violinists, vibraphonists, pianists, flutists, bassists, if you love jazz and wish to spend 13 days playing it, see you in Grožnjan. Summer Jazz Academy is not only for professional jazz musicians.

Course Information:

  • Participation fee: 500 €

  • Accommodation is free of charge

  • Food: 22 € per diem

  • Number of participants: 10 per class

  • Working Languages: Croatian, English, German & Spanish

Food & Lodging:

The Centre has several houses with two to six bedrooms with shared bathrooms and toilet facilities, several rehearsal rooms and the concert hall. The meals will be provided in the restaurant “Bastia”. (According to your choice in the application form you have sent).

How to Get to Grožnjan?

International Cultural Center (ICC) JMC in GROŽNJAN is located in a region called Istria. The nearest town is BUJE also written sometimes BUIE (Italian). BUJE is the place you should reach by bus if you come from TRIESTE (Italy), Slovenia, ZAGREB or PULA, where the Centre's car will pick you up (please note you must call us at least several days in advance to confirm the exact time of your arrival. Contact person: Mr. Mladen Cvitak: +385 98 456 109.

You are expected to come to Grožnjan the day before the beginning of the seminar, and leave on the day that it finishes (or the morning of the next day). When you come to Grožnjan, you need to contact us in the ICC JMC office (U. Gorjana 2, 52 429 Grožnjan). Apart from your toothbrush and towels, please bring your instruments, scores, music stands, spare strings and clothing suitable for concerts. Those who play guitar or bass guitar should bring their own amplifier. Drummers should bring all if it is possible (concert drums, chair, hi-hat).

If this is a problem Yamaha will provide us with several drum sets.

About Money:

The currency in Croatia is Kuna. Arriving in Croatia, you might need to change money. There are cash machines in Buje and in Grožnjan! In Grožnjan you can exchange money every morning in the post office.
