Jazz Improvisation Camp Norway 2015


JM Norway seeks young, talented jazz musicians to participate as international guests at a jazz improvisation course organized this summer in Norway! The jazz camp will take place from July 26th to August 2nd 2015 at the idyllic Agder Folkehøgskole in Søgne, in the south of Norway. Held for the 27th time, this jazz summer course offers a meeting among professionals, students and talented amateurs in a weeklong celebration of improvisation within jazz and related styles. The course features ensemble playing and instrumental classes, composing/arranging classes, evenings out to concerts, jam sessions, lectures and grand final performance at the end of the course.

Trumpet 2/adm/var. classes – Torgrim Sollid (Norway)

Participants

  • This opportunity is open exclusively to musicians within the Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI) network. To find your local section of JMI visit: www.jmi.net. If there is no JMI member in your country, please, contact mail@jmi.net for more information.

  • Participants should be between 18 and 30 years old.

  • All courses will be conducted in English, hence an intermediate level of English is required to follow the course.

  • Participants must hold an intermediate - high musical/vocal level, an intermediate level of sheet reading knowledge and have a good ear for rhythm and melody.

General conditions

  • Onsite lodging, food and transportation costs will be covered by JM Norway.

  • Travel to and from Norway (to Kjevik airport, Kristiansand) must be paid for by the participant.

  • Participants are responsible for pocket money and any private expenses.

  • Participants who require a visa or other official requirements are responsible for this themselves. If any help is needed, we ask you to contact the JM Norway staff (see contact info below)

Applications

The application form must be filled in and returned to JM Norway by May 5th 2015 by e-mail to post@jmn.no .

The application must include:

  • The general application from (in attachment), including contact details from your local JM section

  • Applicant’s full CV

  • Audio-material: Digital files (mp3 format) of at least 2 different pieces or a total of 10 minutes of recording in which the candidate is clearly heard, with an important soloist part.

  • Links to sites where the music can be downloaded, can replace the mp3, and so can any mySpace or YouTube links. The material should give us an impression of the applicant’s skills.

After receiving your material, a confirmation will be sent to you by e-mail within 7 days, notifying you about successful submission. After all applications are received, a jury consisting of the course organizers will select this years summer course participants. All candidates will be notified about the results of this selection. Accepted participants will receive a detailed information pack when accepted, containing all practical information.
