JOIN THE WORLD'S PREMIERE YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Organised by JM International, the JM Jazz World Orchestra is a unique project, bringing together some of planet's most promising young jazz talents as one international big band.  â€‹

We are pleased to announce that the JMJWO is now open to applications for the 2018 edition. We are looking for musicians aged between 18-26 playing saxophone, trombone, trumpet, horn, tuba, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, piano and vocals.

These musicians will gain an invaluable opportunity to tour Europe in the summer of 2018, playing with the best young jazz musicians from around the world and working with world-class jazz mentors.

We are pleased to announce that US trombonist and composer/arranger Luis Bonilla will return for the 2018 edition, continuing his outstanding work as Artistic Director. 

​

The 2018 edition will run throughout the first half of July 2018 and will be hosted by JM Macedonia. The session will begin with rehearsals in Ohrid, Macedonia, followed by a concert/festival tour of South East Europe which will end with a final concert in Groznjan, Croatia.

The JMJWO is a unique opportunity to play with talented and passionate jazz musicians from around the world and to learn from some of the planets most accomplished jazz musicians who direct, mentor and perform alongside the orchestra.

​

As well as maintaining the highest standards of musicianship, the orchestra also offers an invaluable intercultural learning experience and a taste of life as an internationally touring musician.

Luis Bonilla is a US-Costa Rican trombonist, composer, arranger and educator. 

​

Bonilla's success as a sideman with such greats as McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Tom Harrell, Freddie Hubbard, Astrud Gilberto, Willie Colon and Toshiko Akiyoshi attests not only to the skill and variety of Bonilla’s talent, but also to a mind restlessly committed to exploring some of the most complex and demanding music of our time.

The JMJWO regularly works with various established jazz artists. Recent collaborators include Gonzalo Rubalcaba, John Riley, Hector Martignon, Andy McKee and Karlheinz Miklin.

HOW TO APPLY

​

The JMJWO is seeking musicians aged between 18-26 playing saxophone, trombone, trumpet, horn, tuba, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, piano and vocals. It is essential that you read sheet music, but the most important thing is a passion for music.

​

Applications comprise of global open video/online auditions processed by the JMJWO committee and a professional jury.

​

Candidates will be asked to provide:

​​

  • Links to videos with you performing at least 2 different pieces: a theme and an improvisation. The candidates need to be clearly heard, with an important soloist part.

  • Your full CV (must contain information about faculty of music, academy and school of music, experience acquired as a jazz musician).

  • A written recommendation from a music teacher or similar.

  • A signed statement from either your parents, yourself, university, school or a JMI National Member or Associate Section, stating that your travel costs to and from the tour will be covered.

The deadline for applications is the 8th of January.
